Foundations - Web Site

For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building. According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 3:9-11

Anyone who wants the best that God has for them must begin with a solid foundation. We try to build a rich and fulfilling life through many things (family, friends, career, hobbies, etc.). Some of these things seem satisfying and some can end up being destructive.

How ever you build your life, everyone, without exception, will have trouble in this life (John 16:33), and everyone, without exception, will one day face the end of their life. When trouble comes or the end is near, even the richest-looking life will come crashing down if its foundation is weak.

47 Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: 48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. 49 But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”

Luke 6:47-49

Jesus says that the only solid foundation is the Word of God. If your foundation is firm, you will be secure no matter what comes against you (including hardship, tragedy, or even death)! So we choose to carefully build our lives on the solid rock of God’s Word—the Bible.

The purpose of this study is to use God’s Word to build a solid foundation for being a lifelong follower of Christ.

If you are a new Christian, congratulations and welcome to the family! We pray that this study would introduce the basic principles and concepts for your life as a Christ-follower, and that the Holy Spirit would apply what we learn here to your own life.

If you have already been walking in the Christian faith for a long time, it is good to constantly refresh your understanding of the basics. We pray that this study would strengthen your foundation and that the Holy Spirit would even also shed new light on things that you may have already learned.

Either way, the ultimate purpose is to glorify God by enjoying him forever. The more we know him the more we will enjoy him.

Bible study should send you to your knees at least as often as it sends you to your desk. We don’t learn about God merely for the sake of knowledge, but rather a means to the end of glorifying God by enjoying him forever. We pray that the what you learn in this study would go further than your head to reach your heart, propelling you forward as a lifelong follower of Christ.

This study is divided into three sections:

The Beginning | The Purpose | Sin & its Consequences | Jesus Paid the Price
Receiving God’s Gift | Water Baptism | Lordship – Obedience & Grace

Discipleship & Growth | The Church | Meeting Together
Communion | Bible Study | Prayer | Worship

The Trinity | The Holy Spirit | Fruit of the Spirit | Spiritual Gifts
Serving Others | Giving | Evangelism | World Missions

While the ordering of the sections in this study is probably the most natural, you are free to study the sections in any order. Each section is designed to be independent of the other two.
